About Us
The Association Verein zur Förderung der Bevölkerung Spitis (Spiti-Help), with its offices based in Pradler Strasse 50, 6020 Innsbruck-Austria, aims to protect the traditional Tibetan medicine in the north Indian Spiti valley from extinction, as well as allow an easy access to health care to the native population.
The Spiti community comprehends eight villages, counting more than 4000 inhabitants and only 4 traditional Tibetan doctors. The valley lies at an altitude ranging from 3500 and 3900 meters and is isolated eight months a year during the winter. The road that connects the villages to the one hospital located in the valley is closed. Hence, the four local doctors are the only medical aid available.
