History
Tibetan medicine (tib: gso-parig-pa, "the knowledge of healing ") belongs to the oldest medical system in the world and is similar to a traditional "Medicine School". It was developed and transcribed around the 8th century from the Asian medical tradition and from Buddha's teachings. More traditions were integrated: the Indian medicine (Ayurveda), the Chinese medicine (TCM), the Persian Medicine (Unaini, inherited from the ancient Greek traditional medicine) and from the shamanic traditional medicine of the Hymalayan regions. Today's formula relies on the ground works of the Gyusu, i.e. the Four Tantras of Medicine, written in the 12th century. 1600 illnesses are described together with a list of thousands of remedies.
